Version 1.1 RELEASED!!!
VERSION 1.1 of the Zombuddies rules and the Character Sheet released!!!!!
Hi folks! This update addresses a couple of fixes based on play testing and creates a new success and fail dynamic!!!
Critical failures and critical successes are in most RPGS.
But what about Failures with a silver lining?
What about Successes but with an unlucky break?
Unlucky Successes and Lucky Failures added to the game! I think you’ll love this change!!!!!
Here’s how it works:
FAIL+LUCKY & SUCCEED+UNLUCKY
When rolling a check, a one fails, but with a lucky secondary result.
Contrarily, rolling the highest number on the die succeeds, but with an unlucky secondary result.
For example, a character is trying to roll a SPEED check to dodge an adversary charging them on a scooter. The player rolls a one, so the check fails, and the character will have consequences (will have to make a DANGER roll). But because it’s a FAIL+LUCKY, the GM decides the lucky result is the adversary has fallen off the scooter in the collision and the player now has ADVANTAGE over him.
So OUCH, you got hit, but YAY the adversary fell down!
Similarly, rolling the highest number on your die results in a SUCCEED+UNLUCKY. The check succeeds, but there’s an unlucky secondary result to the action. That can be determined by the GM or the GM can ask the players how they want to interpret that UNLUCKY result.
These secondary results are meant to spur creative storytelling and add to the mayhem. Encourage delightful and surprising outcomes.
I have also greatly reduced the mechanic called DREAD. Previously it functioned as a currency that the GM could spend to add adversaries. I think that complicated things too much.
So now DREAD is just a measurement of how much the humans are aware of zombies in their midst, and it’s merely used to confer either advantage or disadvantage to players when they’re either trying to be stealthy or trying to fool humans that they are human too.
Have fun!!!!
